I haven't heard this album yet, but I love Levon Helm so much. I was lucky enough to shake his hand and tell him so after a performance in Bloomington back in '01. It was one of the biggest thrills of my life.

Excellent recommendation, Chief. I got myself a copy today and just finished my first listen. It is a genuine masterpiece. I loved it from the first note to the last. After you hear enough of that crap they play on the radio, you get a little numb to music; then you hear something authentic like this and it feels like a cool breeze blowing up off of a mountain stream.

I'm thrilled that he is singing again. When I saw him in 2001, he was traveling with a band called Levon Helm And The Barnburners. At that time, he was recovering from throat cancer and was not singing. He only did the drumming. It was so sad to me that a voice like his had been silenced. Now, I feel so happy for him that he is once again able to do what he was born to do. He's a treasure.

I've always loved his music and it doesn't hurt that just like JC, Levon is from Arkansas. In fact he grew up just about 20 miles as the crow flies from where I was born. I know some people that grew up with him and his sister, but as far as I know, I never met him. We had the White River between us and at that time no bridge so I never went to Elaine until I was grown.......Doug

Yeah, this is a real good album. Helm has always had, in my view, a very distinct way of pronouncing words, phrases, and the wey he stretches them out when he sings. I think his songs are great stories. If you like music that is for listening, then this is a great album. It's not pretty music, but it and Levon Helm are real. If you want to dance to one of the pretty boys, I guess you could put on a "Tim McGraw" type of character. If you want "real," then Levon is a super good choice.

In his understated manner, Levon Helm was outstanding in "The Last Waltz" DVD.
