Patsy,

I have a question for you: as a secretary, do you take notes at meetings? And do you use a steno pad or a laptop?

At times I have to take notes at meetings and have always relied on my shorthand. Younger employees usually prefer using a laptop. If using a laptop, is it better to use 'shorthand characters?

At present I'm 'in between assignments' and have started practicing taking notes on a laptop while listening to the news. Right now the typing looks a tad sloppy.

I stood in awe with my camera before The Man in Black. Then Johnny Cash looked down and smiled at me--freezing that moment on film and forever in my head!

Patsy,
I also remember some of the heated arguments in years past. Sometimes quiet can be good. Some viewers continue to hit past topics, but prefer not to add any comments. They're like the gawkers at a nudist colony who prefer to wear their clothes. Roll Eyes

June,
In my younger days I lived on the island of Maui. There is a picturesque beach called Makena Beach (also calle Little Makena Beach). Rumor has it that it was also a popuar 'swimsuit optional' tourist attaction. I believe it's about five miles south of Wailea along an old dusty road. But that's only what I heard. Wink

QUOTE: I have a question for you: as a secretary, do you take notes at meetings? And do you use a steno pad or a laptop? UNQUOTE

No steno pad.. My bosses use a little recorder to dictate...

And I have a laptop that I got lately so when I work my weekend job I can take it with me and get on it when I am just "sitting".. My old gentleman doesn't need me all the time, he sleeps a good bit.. So I can get on the Internet then..

Sometimes I miss the "heated discussions".. I was usually a gawker but enjoyed others remarks.. But I am glad that we still have a goodly number of Forum members that come and check in!!

Patsy, I agree that this place has become very quiet. I think it has been trending that way for 2 or 3 years. I still check in nearly every day, but I rarely post anymore. Most of the ones with whom I had a "forum friendship" have either stopped posting or post very infrequently. Then when CashCow died last year, it almost completely took all the wind out of my sails. His ongoing birthday thread was probably my favorite thing on the internet. May he rest in peace and have a very happy birthday. Wink

I agree Patsy, Very quiet Frowner

Johnny and June first met in 1956, though they weren't married until 1968.

"The story goes that my father walked up to her, and that the reason he came (to the Grand Ole Opry that night) was he wanted to meet her. And he said, 'I'm going to marry you one day' here between these walls, and she said, 'Sure.'
They were both married (to other people) at the time. That's pretty unusual."

I think it's grown quieter gradually. Years ago many of us used to write long-winded posts about particular topics. We used to debate and argue over many of them. However, that was then, back when many of us really didn't know each other very well. Since then there have been numerous Cash Bash gatherings and countless discussions in the forum, chatrooms, and through private emails. Many of us tend to know now where other folks coming-from when they voice their opinions. We know who we are talking too. We are not just names to each other anymore. It's a more relased atmosphere. Yet, I do miss some of the spirited discussions we used to have on George Jones...lol...Also, speaking for myself, some of the really knowledable Cashaholics have disappeared. There were once several of us who could carry-on threads for weeks with numberous posts everyday as we battled, laughed, taught, learned, etc about each other and Johnny Cash. Along with that, life gets in the way. We all change and evolve. I've always done some of Johnny's music in the venues I play, but now that I've teamed-up as a duo with an old friend, I find we are singing more and more of his songs. I never liked A Boy Named Sue that much, but once you've done 4-5 Cash songs, someone is going to ask for it. I've had a family member die the week before last from pancreatic cancer. He didn't have a chance.

In many ways I miss the days when we were constanly on here debating, laughing, talking. Out of that time came some very strong friendships that will last as long as we do. We've had friends die and new ones join the forum family. I think many of us who were here at the beginning have not only become good friends, we've become better human beings through our contacts in this forum. Much of that has to do with learning and understanding more of who Johnny Cash was as a human being. It was a time when we felt very protective of Johnny Cash, June, and their families. Now, we're still protective, but now the legend is more than big, it's gigantic and so obviously real. The fire still burns in us, but the urgency has lessened. Johnny Cash towers over all the rest. No one else even close. It has nothing to do with record sales or dancing. I think literally the entire world knows his stature as a human being. Johnny's legacy is the equal of all but perhaps some of the saints. I think that that fueled alot of the drive that the early years of this forum witnessed: we wanted everyone to know what we knew.

And somethimes there's just not a great deal to talk about. I'm not big on which song is played today, and that's just me. I know a great many people enjoy it and it's takes a great deal of effort to continuously supply that service for everyone. Ken has done it for years. I wouldn't have the patience to do that. God Bless him for having it and sharing his efforts.
I still like the forum better than Cashvillenow. It's likely just me, but I'm not sure what Cashvillenow is about. I'm probably too set in my ways and too damn comfortable in this particular format and can't adept to something newer. Anyway, it will all come-together and continue to be part of the ever-growing legacy of Johnny.

I agree with you, Larry.. (Sorry for not starting a food fight!! Big Grin) I just guess I had gotten used to coming here and putting my two bits in and hearing others opinions....

Also I have limited time, like everyone does, to email personally. I wish I did have more time.. Some days I do... But the Forum always gave me a place to come to let it out!!! Eeker Smiler

One thing I used this for is to tell my Cash friends of my joys and my sorrows and I always got support and love.. This was my "family" and Larry, I am so, so sorry about the loss of your family member.. Those are the things I miss.. Not knowing about others joys and sorrows and letting them know we care..

I am like Larry, too, in that I am not catching on to CashvilleNow like I should be.. It seems things don't always go where I think they will!! Big Grin I have had lots of help but guess it doesn't stick too well!!! Big Grin Big Grin

But I can still come here and support the Forum and for that I am very grateful.. Anything to support OUR MAN is a GOOD thing!!! Smiler

Patsy, you are right. This forum is very quiet. I'm really sad about. I think there are many reasons.....
My first computer I bought , because I've heart about the forum. Now it's a place I never want to miss. Like you said it's family for me , too. And I'm very proud to be a member of the forum.. And I'm so thankful that Bill gave us this place to come together...
But a lot has changed the last years... Many nice people have left us...I miss them a lot...I really miss them.... I miss a lot of topics the had...
Prayer topics, picture topics, topics where we took care about each other, topics were we talked about interests, or where we talked about our life's.... about experiences...about supporting each other...etc...But I still love my forum family....
Today I had a very good experience which made me happy.. I have a short time job till September, because I want safe more money for USA trips...I say JOHNNY CASH trips..My hubby supports me a lot , but when I told him I want to go more then one time....hmmmm. think he wasn't so happy, because we also want to spend vacations together... So I decided to safe more money for my second home I'll work a little.. That's okay....
I meet on work really nice people but no one who's interested in JC ...But I talked a lot of our forum, My love to JC and JCC and the Carters and about the love to your country....Now this week, a colleague told me her 16 year old son would listen JC.. I ask her : Is he a Fan ? no she said, but she ask me for a few copies ( sorry I did make them )....I also gave her a radio sticker for her son...Today she let me know he was so happy....You can't imagine how happy I was... I promised her to bring This JC Sweat Shirt for him when I'm in Corona next february..... That made my day !!!

WE'LL MEET AGAIN, DON'T KNOW WHERE, DON'T KNOW WHEN....I STILL MISS SOMEONE
JOHNNY & JUNE beloved and never forgotten !!!!

Much love
Birgit
