Henson Cargill had one of the biggest hits of 1968.
Skip a rope.
After this hit every recordcompany rejected Henson Cargill for the song was so controversial at the time.
Now there are 2 cds available with this great singer. If you like Johnny Cash/Merle Haggard. you will like his music to.
1:Henson Cargill on the road

I think I read somewhere that Johnny was offered Skip A Rope first, and turned it down.

"June was my solid rock. She was always there. She was my counselor, comforter, everything else. What a wonderful woman she was."....from the Final Interview with Kurt Loder in Bill Miller's book, Cash - An American Man.

Amazing that a song could be "controversial" because of a line like "hate your neighbor for the color of his skin." I hadn't heard that John was offered "Skip a Rope," but it's certainly possible. He and Henson Cargill were good friends; Cargill's son was named Cash Cargill, after the Man in Black.

I bought a compilation CD of old country songs about a year ago just so I could get this one song. I'll have to check out the other two albums.
Thanks,
Ivan

Lord, let me do a little more pickin'
Before I get my cotton weighed
And ramble around Your footstool
Until my last song is played.
