Tonight while I was watching one of my favorite TV programs, Antiques Roadshow, someone brought in a 1931 Gibson guitar. The expert talked about the history of this guitar, being the Cadillac of guitars of the era, and mentioned that the finest guitarists played this type of guitar, such as Mother Maybelle Carter. Whew! Love it! That particular guitar was valued at $10,000 but of course Mother Maybelle's. which is now at the Country Music Hall of Fame, is PRICELESS!

Gee, what a story! It's good to see that Mother Maybelle still has kudos out there, as is only right and correct. I have the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" (as well as some original Carter family recordings from 1928) featuring Mother Maybelle and that lady could definitely pick a solid guitar!!

No doubt about that, Grahame. I love the story about when Mother Maybelle came out to California to work on the project with the NGDB, she sent her famous guitar through baggage on the plane, and they were appalled to see that priceless instrument coming on the baggage carrousel...just like any old suitcase.

LOL!! What a humble lady! That guitar rang like a bell! I remember her chatting with Doc Watson about blistering her hands re-stringing her autoharp! Most recording artists don't even tune their own guitars, much less re-stringing an autoharp!! Smiler

I am sure that is true about Willie's guitar...with all those signatures, etc. I would love to see a close up picture with all the famous autographs!

The stunning thing i read about Trigger is that it was really cheap and that Willie bought this guitar with a telephone call without having seen it. He just needed a new guitar. I hope this story is true.
