We can all enjoy this one!!...

Johnny and June first met in 1956, though they weren't married until 1968.

"The story goes that my father walked up to her, and that the reason he came (to the Grand Ole Opry that night) was he wanted to meet her. And he said, 'I'm going to marry you one day' here between these walls, and she said, 'Sure.'
They were both married (to other people) at the time. That's pretty unusual."

Marion, thanks for this priceless bit of history on the Carter Family. Nice to see The Whites on this video. They are keeping true country music alive in their performances. I was privileged to witness this recently at the Ryman Auditorium. An added treat was Ricky Skaggs joining them on stage.

Abe (Jim) your favorite Carter Family song was also my mother's favorite, and would bring tears to her eyes whenever she heard it. Some of their old songs certainly had a way of pulling at your heartstrings.

Yes, I was out of town, and just saw this ....thanks, Marion, for bringing it to the Forum. Most of it is from the wonderful PBS show, The Carter Family. It is an hour long show from the American Experience series. I believe it is available on dvd ...maybe Bill has it in the store..not sure, but I highly recommend it.

The Carters led an amazing life...together and separately. Ezra (Eck), June's father, deserves a lot of credit to for lending AP his car to make that long trek into Bristol in that hot August of 1927!

"June was my solid rock. She was always there. She was my counselor, comforter, everything else. What a wonderful woman she was."....from the Final Interview with Kurt Loder in Bill Miller's book, Cash - An American Man.

That was staged by Mr. Peer to promote records. That is probably where Jimmie made a pass at Maybelle. Johnny said she never would give any details, but the girls and he knew something happened at that "meeting," and since Eck was not there, nor was Mrs. Rodgers, they figured that there was a reason that Maybelle, who would never say anything unkind, just said "Jimmie was just not himself."
