A salute to one of my greatest guitar teachers, and one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century!

I never tire of listening to the old Carter Family records. If sometimes I'm lead to doubt the greatness springing from America's core (and sometimes I almost am), all I need to do is listen to a few seconds of the pure, heroic and dignified sounds of Maybelle, Sarah and A.P., and all my doubts are put to shame!

This is the Alpha and the Omega of Americana music. May the Carter scratch ring forever!

In Honor Of Maybelle Carter!

Johnny and June first met in 1956, though they weren't married until 1968.

"The story goes that my father walked up to her, and that the reason he came (to the Grand Ole Opry that night) was he wanted to meet her. And he said, 'I'm going to marry you one day' here between these walls, and she said, 'Sure.'
They were both married (to other people) at the time. That's pretty unusual."

Just caught up with this thread....thanks for the wonderful tributes to the wonderful Mother Maybelle. What a lady ...what a talent...what a wife and mother....and I too never tire of listening to my Carter Family cd's.

"June was my solid rock. She was always there. She was my counselor, comforter, everything else. What a wonderful woman she was."....from the Final Interview with Kurt Loder in Bill Miller's book, Cash - An American Man.
