I was wondering what the music playing sceen is like durring the cashbash, because I might be able to come this year. I'd love to play some Luther Perkins if possible. Can anybody tell me how it works and what I need to bring?

Luther:
Perhaps I can assist since I do the sound engineering and recording for this event. Bring your guitar and amp. I will use either a amp mike or a DI box for your guitar and we may bring some wireless hookups as well. The CASHBASH committee will set the schedule, format, etc for Friday and Saturday evening. Join us and have some fun. LarryBaird |

There would be nothing better than a Luther Picker at Cashbash !
Personally I am an "ACE "on The Air Guitar, I have never missed a beat or a note and I don't have to put up with Larry's meddlesome mixer board and sound system !! LOL,LOL,LOL and also I get to sit with Mary Ann which is always a thrill for Her !! |

If Jerry (CashCow2) gets any wilder and funnier, we're gonna start charging admission just to get to meet him! Can't wait for this year's gathering!
As far as the music goes, the general plan is to let folks take turns onstage. If they bring electric, they can plug in. If acoustic, they can get their guitars close to a second mic, all provided by our recording guru LarryB. Please note that this is a very small place, so nobody will be blasting the room away, volume-wise. The line-up has been pretty loose in years past, and since the committee has me sort of head it up, I've been paying attention, trying to figure out what would work best. At previous CashBashes, different ones get up and do a couple, then whoever wants to be next follows suit, and this works pretty good. This year, I think I have a great formula that I want us to try. I call it "Three Strikes and You're Out." When it's your turn, have your three ready, get up and do 'em, and then let the next guy/gal go. Then you fall back into the rotation, like a batting line-up, and you're up again, eventually. This way, everybody gets the same amount of turns, the audience gets a nice variety, and the music never ends. You might even call it a "Cash Flow." How does that sound to everyone? Some folks bring their own pickers to back them up, and that's fine. Sometimes our good buddy Tom stays onstage to be the "house picker" to accompany whoever needs him, and this has worked great in times past. We even had a bass player a time or two, and that adds a lot to the sound. As far as making the precise line-up, I think it's good to have an actual listing, so folks can see when their turn is coming up. To compile this, we'll see who we have once we get there, and put it in some kind of order that should make everyone happy. And of course, many will repeat the same songs, but that's cool and it's all good! The music begins Friday evening after everyone has been welcomed and introduced, so we know who is who. I'm not against using name tags, since each year we get some folks new to CashBash. My favorite part of the whole gathering (other than reconnecting with CashBashers and meeting the newest members of "the family") is the late night circle. This is the closest you'll ever come to sitting in on one of The Man's famous "guitar pulls." He used to have guests over and after supper, they'd gather in a big room and pass the guitar around, taking turns. Our circle is just that - a circle of chairs where we all sit and play/sing in rotation. This goes on late into the night, and a few of us even pulled an all-nighter last time, and man, was that something! What makes that special to me is that it's all acoustic and very informal and intimate. Here, we get to share Cash songs, songs by others, and even songs we've written ourselves. The Man's guitar pulls often debuted brand new songs by artists that are now classics. Anyway, that's kinda how I think it's gonna happen. And I hope many of you will be there to be a part of it. Rhon is not planning on bringing his drums but if needed he can play anythng....and wouldnt mind backing anyone... but you may not do drums if we will all be setting in a circle... But he will bring his guitar and hookup.. we have extra mics and mic stands. do we need to bring them. and we have a nice portable realistic sound system. just let me know if we need to bring anything beside the guitar..

Please do not bring DRUMS. Area too small and I am not bringing a large enough system to handle drums properly. In addition the area is too small.

Another thing I forgot to mention about the music at CashBash is that there are NO headliners. We're there to share the music, and to enjoy what others bring to share. This is the reason for taking turns onstage, and then in the late-night circle. A few times, we've had a surprise guest show up, but they take turns too. Those of us who've been to CashBash know how it works, and I wanted to make sure that any new folks don't show up, expecting to put on a concert by themselves or with any players they bring. It's only fair, because everybody is coming from afar to be there and be a part of it. Plus, it's just downright FUN to enjoy the different folks, one right after the other!

And some talented folks we have indeed. Even though there are no headliners...you will hear some great Cash music if you come!

Amen to that, Terry! I've enjoyed everyone's renditions, no matter how advanced they are with their guitar or no matter how long they've been singing. Everybody sings from the heart because they love The Man, and that's what makes it so special! I especially love it when someone from the audience decides they want to sing and gets up and takes a turn!
And Marion, I hope you'll get over your fear of flying and join us. Forget the bus trip - it'd take forever! You can be there in a few hours, enjoying it all with us! I don't like flying and have been doing it for only a short while now, but have grown to accept it. You don't have to sit by the window, so it's not scary. Please reconsider, 'cause it's gonna be two more years before we do this again and you'll be facing the same decision! Come join us! Yes, Marion.....have you thought of a hypnosis session to relieve the fear, or two martinis before the flight?
