I read somewhere that Johnny Cash was an ordained Christian minister. Is that correct?

I'm new here and this is my first post.

Does anyone know what his thoughts were on New Age Spiritualism and if he ever made his thoughts somewhat known publicly?

Thank ya'll,
meekandbold

In the 1970s, JC as well as June Carter received academic degrees in theology after studying and graduating through correspondence.

Thank you, Reimer.

Do you know, or does anyone else know what his thoughts were about New Age Spiritualism? I'm curious about knowing about what he thought about it for a particular reason.

From what I know of Mr. Cash, I am inclined to think that he would have thought it was nonsense. Anyway, I'd like to know what his thoughts were about it if.

Well when Johnny found out Rosanne was into astrology he told her to find out all she could about it and make her own educated decision. Somehow I think thats a good attitude about most things.

I also think that that is a good attitude about most things also. I can't help to think that since he was a minister, a man of God, he would have attempted to softly and gently lead anyone away from N.A.S. and any other of the sort of belief system. Just my thoughts.

Thank you, Paul.

Does anyone else know what he thought about New Age Spiritualism?

Thank ya'll,

Johnny's beliefs were very strictly Bibled-based. He took the Bible very literally and was an amazing student of it.

That being said, he wasn't the type of person to condemn people for their spiritual beliefs, nor was he the type to push his beliefs on you. If you asked him, however, he would share generously and if you were a new believer, he'd often inscribe and give you a Bible.

I have long admired JRC for his faith (he is one of the reasons I am a Christian today) but admire him even more for the respect and tolerance he showed to those who didn't necessarily feel the same way. I also recall hearing that when one of his daughters was expressing an interest in an alternative faith, he wanted to learn more about it. Cash seemed to be strong enough in his own beliefs that he wasn't afraid of those that differed.

I'm glad (and relieved) to know that JRC's beliefs were strictly Biblical based. My husband is a Baptist minister (bi-vocational) and is a keen student of the Bible.
He also teaches many classes at our church and I do also.

A genuine Christian does not condemn or push his or her beliefs onto one of another faith. However, a Christian is to carry out the Great Commission as commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ and genuine Christians do just that.

It is extremely important for a Christian to learn some of the basic core beliefs of other faiths/cults so as not to be astray from the Word of God. Dismissing, leaving, denying, etc. the Word of God and adhering to alternative faiths has happened to countless professing Christians. Moreover, a person claiming to be a Christian should be well-grounded in the teachings of God's Word so as not to be led astray and to assist in keeping any stumbling blocks away of other professing Christians as well as others, all the while not to be judging or condemning; but being knowledgable and informative.

I'm glad to learn JRC had respect and tolerance for others. From what I know about JRC, I suspect he probably prayed for his daughter who showed an interest in an alternative faith if it did not hold Christian beliefs such as New Age Spiritualism as others of the like.

I hope to learn more about JRC on this forum and I'm about to go browsing and shopping at the store here!

Thanks to all who answered.

I have another question: Does anyone know if JRC ever spoke from a pulpit?

I hope everyone will have patience with me as I ask a few questions. I haven't read much about JRC, but intend on doing so when time allows. Thank you.

As to whether or not Johnny Cash ever spoke from a pulpit I don't know. I believe he considered every aspect of his life his ministry, and he knew the responsibility he had when he spoke from the stage. He took his beliefs seriously, and made himself as knowledgable as possible so he could speak with authority on his faith.

Thank you Chad (CRC) so much for the info.
From what you wrote, it sounds like he wanted everyone to see Jesus in him without anyone having to question or wonder if He was or not which is the responsibility of all Christians. That is what I strive to do.

Did you ever have the opportunity to see him perform? Thank you again for replying.

Does anyone know when he became an ordained minister?
