...on the way to The Art Walk!
Here in Ventura yesterday and today we had one of the many Art Walks that happen several times a year. For this one, the evening was clear, the weather was great, the crowds were out strolling up and down Main street, and art was everywhere. So, when we got down to the block where Johnny Cash used to have his office, I passed an old (but perfectly restored) red Fire Cheif car, complete with lights and a megaphone/speaker on top of the station wagon. I have no idea who this belonged to, but just as we were passing by, the red lights came on but instead of a siren out of that megaphone/speaker....Ring Of Fire bagan to play! I thought it would stop after the first verse, but no, it played (LOUD) all the way through the song. People everywhere were stopping, singing along and laughing with this great piece of 'art'! It was one of the coolest things I have seen at the art walk yet, and a neat tribute to the man in black in his old hometown. I only wish I had a video to share, but I hope you enjoyed the story anyhow. aloha, Suzi This message has been edited. Loved it!
Thanks for sharing! Johnny and June first met in 1956, though they weren't married until 1968. "The story goes that my father walked up to her, and that the reason he came (to the Grand Ole Opry that night) was he wanted to meet her. And he said, 'I'm going to marry you one day' here between these walls, and she said, 'Sure.' They were both married (to other people) at the time. That's pretty unusual." Great story!
I've noticed that every time Ring of Fire plays on the radio or elsewhere, people seem to get much more happier and mellower, like they are injected with happiness and sort of a joy of life. |

"Ring of Fire" is probably the Cash song that gets the most attention when I play it at the coffee shop. I see folks mouthing the words often. Then when Terry is there, she sings along with ALL of 'em, and I love it! :-)
Good story, Suzi.. thanks for sharing that moment with us. Luke "I was sittin' here, thinkin' 'bout old times; some old times and some old friends. And suddenly it crossed my mind, that I would like to see you again......" ~J.R. Cash |
