Johnny and June first met in 1956, though they weren't married until 1968.

"The story goes that my father walked up to her, and that the reason he came (to the Grand Ole Opry that night) was he wanted to meet her. And he said, 'I'm going to marry you one day' here between these walls, and she said, 'Sure.'
They were both married (to other people) at the time. That's pretty unusual."

Thanks so much for sharing.
I know it was in Feb., 1985, because I worked in Philadelphia that year and watched it on TV. It was probably aired live.
It was done because Waylon, Cash, June, and Jessie Colter gave a 3-day-performance in the Radio City Music Hall in NYC, starting the next day.
I remember thinking about going there by Greyhound to see the show, but since I just had started my job in January, I didn't go.
Now I think that was a stupid decision.

G'day Marion,

I've been busier than a one-armed paper-hanger in a gale and have only just been able to sit down and watch the interview you posted. It was great to watch and brought back so many great memories, mate. Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention.
