Hi Michael,
this CD is very rare and it was released in a very limited edition. It appears on ebay from time to time but then usually gets very expensive. At this time about 60.- Dollars or more for it would be normal. If you wait, it possible gets cheaper, but not for sure. Patsy, I believe that the CD was offered as a special gift for high-level contributers to PBS. It's a bummer that the album (only ten songs, I think) isn't more widely available - but it WAS for a good cause.
(The album may have also been offered through other "exclusive" venues as well. The old saying, "you get what you pay for" goes both ways.) |

Does anybody know who wrote "House on the Hill" and "I Never Got to Know Him Very Well"?
|

I believe "I never got to know him very well" was written by Shel Silverstein.

MERCIFUL FATE Song Lyrics House On The Hill (From the album "9") Let's go to the House on the Hill Let's go to where time stands still If you dare then come with me To the House on the Hill and you will see Nothing is what it seems In the House on the Hill Let's go to the House on the Hill Let's go to where time stands still While you were asleep Another friend of mine has come from the Keep The well in the cellar my dear - That's how I keep them near In the House on the Hill In the House on the Hill In the House on the Hill In the House on the Hill Let's go to the House on the Hill Let's go to where time stands still In my little shrine I keep the stillborn to be born another time The souls that God didn't hear - oh I keep them near In the House on the Hill In the House on the Hill In the House on the Hill In the House on the Hill It is so very strange, to live among the stillborn It is so very strange, to keep their souls away from harm I was one of the mentally ill, who stayed in a cell of his own I was one of the mentally ill, who used to call this home Oh you're not alone Patsy Elmore Tntarpon@comcast.net SUPPORT JOHNNY CASH RADIO. Here are the lyrics to that song, taken from one of last year´s Cash fan club magazines. I also have some problems to find out what it is about.
I Never Got To Know Him Very Well Well, I never got to know him very well All we did was spend a little time You´re waiting for a story but there´s really none to tell He´s just a passing shadow on my mind But I remember him On the streets of New York City as he walked the night Looking for some place to go and as I passed, he said, Hey, there´s snowflakes on your lashes But I laughed and said, That isn´t snow, I said, that´s feathers from a pillow God is shaking in the sky And I opened smiling lips to catch a snowflake blowing by And we both began to laugh and then he looked me in the eyes And it was warm again But I never got to know him very well All we did was spend a little time You´re waiting for a story but there´s really none to tell He´s just a passing shadow on my mind But I remember him As we woke up warm together in my sunlit room And I said, I´ll help you pack and I sewed his shirt And he said, I´ll stay forever but I laughed And put some cookies in his sack I said, leave a trail of cookie crumbs as you walk through the snow And someday I´ll follow after and I´ll find you where you go And he left me in the doorway then but why I'll never know But I was younger then And I never got to know him very well All we did was spend a little time You´re waiting for a story but there´s really none to tell He´s just a passing shadow on my mind Yes, he´s just a passing shadow on my mind Peter We´ve seen secret things revealed by God and we heard what the angels had to say, Should you go first or if you follow me, will you meet me in heaven someday |

Either it's a woman's song, or it is about meeting Jesus. Just guessing....

Just listened to The House On The Hill and copied down the lyrics:-
The House On The Hill At the house on the hill with the roses bloomin’ still The same old wind is blowing in the trees In the trees growing now in the fields they used to plough And you could still plough up a lot of memories Like the memories of that wedding day one Sunday afternoon When Edward married Sara what a perfect bride and groom And if you make believe you’ll see her leaning out the window sill Watching for him from the house on the hill It was on a summer morn that their baby boy was born And a home so happy there could never be More children came along and soon the house was full of song But then the Country called and Edward went to sea The children grew up one by one and Sara’s hair turned grey No longer were they singing since Edward went away Well the house has long been empty but they say that Sara’s still Watching for him from the house on the hill Keith 'Man turns his back on his family...he ain't no good' |
